about

SHAYNE: Sanctity was in the live set from our very first show and was in pretty much every set. It was one of the most grueling songs we've done with a tempo of 230bpm, lots of changes and a length over 6mins it was one of MW strongest songs. It paved the way for the MW stage antic, the MurderBounce. This tune was actually conceived from a technical death metal song I wrote way back in 2003. I thought to myself why the hell am I leaving these riffs for a select group of friends to listen to when I can change them slightly and put some thrash beats behind to give more intensity and direction. So all those times the guys would be like “fuck your tech death shit” I say, "Fuck you, look what we got out of it" hahaha

MORBID: Ah yes, Sanctitties in ruin. This song, well, it just flat out ruled. Musically it jumped at me as one of the most incredible thrash songs I'd ever heard, and since I didn't have a major hand in the music (I think I said to extend the palm muted breakdown, after a few too many beers of course, and that was it) so I can say that without being a wanker! I threw down the lyrics almost as soon as I got a copy of the demo. Shayno hit me up with the title, it was something he came up with and really liked, so I just went with that. I'm not even sure now if he wanted the title for this song, or just a title he came up with in general. It's been about 8 years now, so... Anyway, I don't know how much sense it actually ended up making in the chorus, but there you go. Lyrically it was regarding all the iraq stuff that was going on in 2004/05. The live internet beheadings and such. Basically, the song was written from the perspective of the iraqi equivilant of your stereotypical, gun-toting, jesus loving american southerner. Someone who has major thoughts about being pro-war, and totally believes in the agenda, but isn't actively doing anything about it aside from watching TV and screaming "FUCK YEAH" and "DIE YOU AMERICAN PIG" when ever it shows america, much like those aforementioned stereotypical, gun-toting, jesus loving american southerners were doing. I don't know if such a social being actually exists in Iraq, but being that I'm from a western culture, and really haven't read into the stereotypes of the Iraqi social order beyond "nut job terrorist" and "scared, crying women and children" I can claim ignorance on the fact. It was really just a point of view that I could understand, so I twisted it to fit the other side.
At the time of writing these words, I was going through a major anti-war, anti-media phase and was all about using music to pursue that. Like I thought I had something to say. I touched on this topic in a few of the MW songs. Some from the Ashes album, and some will end up on this EP or whatever the hell it is we are doing here. Actually, come to think of it, only Derived from the Ashes album was on the media/war topic. Hmmm... there you go then, but anyway, I'm getting sidetracked...

lyrics

...And so the time has come

For death to arrive
You were given warning
You didn't listen so now its time to die
When you face this mass devastation
Your souls will rot for what you've done
Incoming... the ultimate in
Destruction has begun

Judgement day has come
Atonement for the sins
The final days of humanity has arrived
Brought a blessed wrath
To this unholy place
In service of the greater shall the infidels die?

You sold your soul
Now comes your refund
You gave a life empty
Devoid of reason
To die in this world
Remain undisturbed
What makes you think that
You should be spared

When the death will arrive
And your people all die
The secure sites are graves
Defiled
You think you can win
When the sanctity of
This place is in ruin

Strike at the heart of the beast
Strike to kill
End its miserable existence
Undignified

Final winter falls
Society crumbles
Lives and hopes and dreams are all destroyed
Hate Survives
In strength shall it rise
And call for the vengeance of the victimised.

You gave your life
Unwittingly died
You soul removed
For your crimes
To live in this world
Remain undisturbed
What makes you think that
You will be spared

When the death will arrive
And your people all die
The secure sites are graves
Defiled
You think you can win
When the sanctity of
This place is in ruin

Ruin this sanctity, ruin your sanity
You'll never know when I come for you
Ruin this sanctity, ruin your sanity
You'll never know when I come for you
Die!
For your beliefs...

Show your truth
Insight the violence
Lead to a war
Built on foundations of lies
All hate design
Killing divine
Remove the spine
Life is now undignified

All lost control
Inside a soul
The hate machine
Designed to bleed
Bring forth this pain
This fury unrestrained
All consuming
Unrestricted life removing

Break the foundations
Unshackle the chains
Unravel the pain
Live thru it
Destroy all that fucks all destined

Revealed cold
A hell unfolds
Clean cut, severed fine
Removed head from undeserving swine

And so the time has come
For death to arrive
You were given warning
You didn't listen so now its time to die
When you face this mass devastation
You souls will rot for what you've done
Incoming... the ultimate in
Destruction has begun

You sold your soul
Now comes your refund
You gave your life empty
Devoid of reason
To die in this world
Cannot be reversed
What makes you think that
You should be spared

When the death will arrive
And your people all die
The secure sites are graves
Defiled
You think you can win
When the sanctity of
This place is in ruin

Ruin this sanctity, ruin your sanity
You'll never know when I come for you
Ruin this sanctity, ruin your sanity
You'll never know when I come for you
Die!
