about

SHAYNE: Brutal! was the only word that could ever describe "truth...". It was my heaviest tune for MW. Some more death metal orientated riffs but still thrashing like MW. I sent the first demo to morbid and within 20mins he had a set of lyrics for me. The song never had a name until morbid laid down the vocals and said oh yeah song 16 is called truth is a lie… the lyrics ring in my head every time I listen to it. The song just came together so well it’s a shame we never used it.

MORBID: I don't have a great deal to say about this. It's more anti-media stuff... in a way.
My other pet theme at the time was hate. Wow, what a topic! Hate. I had alot of it back then. So I'd written a few songs about hate, and decided that I'd get back to the media stuff with this one. While the other songs were somewhat topical, at least in the way that I was inspired by actual happenings, this one was just a rather generic "isn't the media/the government/the court system" evil.
While the song mostly focused on the justice system, it wasn't really intended. It just sort of happened that way, which is why I said earlier it was anti-media "in a way". I really wanted to say more about how the buying of the court was going on, but the media wasn't presenting it because they were being paid off to. But like I also said, this wasn't inspired by anything other than I wanted to write a song that was, as I called it, "socially aware". So I wrote some lyrics that had nothing to do with anything. In fact, I think I had almost given up on following the news at that point.
The lyric line "And thats the way truth and justice died/Met with a thunderous applause" was very much inspired by a line from Revenge of the Sith. I'd been to see it at the movies, liked the line, couldn't remember it properly and wrote this into the song. That's why it doesn't seem to fit properly. Well, I think so, anyway.
You may notice after reading this and the entry for MurderWorld (the song) that I use lines (or title, in the case of MW) from various forms of media. I like doing throwaway references to things that I'm into at the time. Backstab (from the Ashes album) uses a catchphrase from the WWE. So much for not having much to say...

lyrics

Money speaks in the kingdoms of truth
Voiced in volumes, words of abuse
Buys your freedom, seals your fate
Former leaders can dictate

Distorted visions never learn
There is no truth, a blind eye turned
Your Honor, dishonored, raped and left
A dollar sign is his crest

Sentencing done by a whore of a man
High and mighty with a gavel in hand
He'll set you free if the price is right
You can murder men and get off light

Vindication
Freedom bought
What of justice?
It's all talk...

How can justice prevail
When the cheque's in the mail
And the system has failed
Anarchy is my salvation
Where the truth is a lie...

Bribes sway the judges commands
Lady justice silently stands
Gagged with red tape, blind by green
Ensuring that truth is never seen

A pardon to the rich with the pockets so deep
It's a wonder at night I ever sleep
When the depraved can walk away
For a small loss of Daddy's wage

Its not a contest yet freedom is won?
No such thing as "justice is done"
Its little suprise all faith is dead
In the courthouse and its head

Vindication
Burns away
What of justice?
Not today...

How can justice prevail
When the cheque's in the mail
And the system has failed
Anarchy is my salvation
Where the truth is a lie...

A policy of blood is theirs to keep
When you're rich a few thou is cheap
Lies and deception in the public eye
For dominance a few innocent die

Control of public perception is had
Forced beliefs and terror fads
For in the end the truth is known
The media is on the payroll

And thats the way truth and justice died
Met with a thunderous applause
Bring an end to this insanity we must
Before our planet falls

Vindication
For a price
What of justice?
It's your's to buy...

How can justice prevail
When the cheque's in the mail
And the system has failed
Anarchy is my salvation
Where the truth is a lie...
